Oliverstwist: aw I'm sorry for your losses :(( I want to get a hedgehog tattoo not sure how I want to do it though.

Ball python 22: I feed her a mixture of two different cat foods. Blue buffalo and chicken soup for the cat lovers soul light. Also bugs as treats. Mostly mealies but I'm also hoping to give her dubias once my colony gets bigger. she also enjoys turkey and chicken

I've been researching these guys a little bit. How hard would you say hedgehogs are to take care of?

Um I don't think I could put there care on a scale. So I'll just type a little and judge for yourself. lol
Well everyday you have to spot clean and clean their wheel. Now the wheel is CAKED with poop from their long night of running. Sometimes it takes me a good 10mins of scrubbing. Plus it's not something you want a miss a day of doing. Then it starts to stink.
If your lucky you may get a hedgehog that takes to litter training. My girl luckly does so makes my life 10000 times easier.
Because my girl is good with her litter box (located under her wheel) I changer her fleece liners once a week. (A small load of laundry )
If not you'll probably be changing liners every 3 days or so depending on how much poop. Like when they're a baby if they're mostly pooping and peeing out of the litter box you'll be doing laundry every 3 days or so. They're poop machines.
Another thing you have to do daily is handle them for at least 30mins and change food and water.
So basically you need about an hour each day devoted to them. Which may not seem like a lot. But it can be for some people.
But even after all that bonding and such. Your hedgehog may never like you. Some just don't. There are people on the forum I visit that have grumpy hedgehogs and love them just the same. Being someone who keeps reptiles I think it would be easier for you to understand that kinda love more then most people.
Plus set up isn't cheap. They need a 4sq ft cage. Which can run you between $20 (if you use a modified storage bin) to like $200 if you use a Ferret nation, critter nation.
They need a CHE set up with the thermostat. Plus a wheel with no mesh. The best one on the market IMO is Larry Thomsons(sp?) wheel which runs about $30.
You will also need a light on a 12-14 hour schedule. It can be a desk lamp or whatever. So thats another $20.
Then you just need two cramatic bowls for food and water. Plus fleece for bedding and snuggle blankets. Which can run you about $30. But personally I spend a ton of money on fleece cause I love all the designs. haha.
OH and bugs. You need to keep feed mealworms. About 5 or so daily depending on weight. But personally I also have dubias for her too.

    Sorry I wrote a lot. o.o
    I hope it's helpful.
Remember just like any other animal
    breeder > petstore
