The alcohol tastes bitter to them, which makes them think 'Crud, I bit something poisonous, ew ew ew!' And let go.

Yeah Listerine is what Brian used on Snake Bytes . He said it usually works every time. That snake let go real quick! As said before, it's probably the alcohol in the Listerine.

Twice Chads female albino burm got him and wouldn't let go. Listerin didn't work with her at all. I had to carry most of her 11 foot body up the stairs into the bathroom to run some hot-ish water on her, and she finally let go. Not only was it a pain to carry her up while latched onto him, cleaning up the blood that trailed the entire way sucked

I have also had luck using varied temperature water but like xdeus said, I wouldn't stress a ball bite..
I know its not a snake but, I had a tegu latched on to me and tried, alcohol, running water over its head, and dunking it under water. The only other item close by that I assumed wouldn't hurt him was vinegar, I held an un-capped bottle to his face and he instantly released..

    I'll join the alcohol chorus.

    "Blame on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol..."

One of my friends was bit by a large burm, he just kept tickling her tail until she let go. Sometimes ill play with my retic the same way. If I'm trying to get her out of her enclosure and she wraps around one of the tree limbs in there, ill tickle her tail and she let's go almost instantly.
