Quality or size?

Basically, I would go with the name brand over el cheapo no name any day. Since their aren't any names, I didn't chose either of them in the poll. I have a 40 inch Sony LCD works fine for me until it dies, then I'll get another name brand.

I personally own an LED TV. I got mine back in 2009 and I love it. The picture quality is amazing on mine. My stepfather owns a larger LCD TV and he says the picture quality on mine is much better. I don't notice it, but both him and my mother commented on it when they spent a week with me this summer. The other thing I love about the LED is that it is much lighter than the LCDs. I can lift my TV by myself and that is a huge bonus for me.

It all comes down to personal preference, but I love my LED. :D

There is so much more that we would need to know. The big question is what kind of TV do you watch. If you want this to watch sports and normal TV get the bigger one. If you watch a lot of movies with dark scenes you might get a better contrast out of the LED making that the way to go. If you have a bedroom that you would also like a TV in someday get the smaller one then later get a bigger LED and move the 40" to the bedroom.

Keep in mind that you won't have the 40" sitting next to the 46" inch. In other words you aren't going to miss what you don't have unless its really bad.

It is actually for the bedroom...I already have a 57" tv in the living room ;). It will probably be mostly for miscellaneous tv/movie watching and gaming. I've never had a TV in my bedroom before, so figured something between 40"-46" would be ideal. The room is bigger than I originally stated, probably closer to 140 sq feet or so. It's not an overly bright or dark room...average I suppose.

I could not disagree more. You have to look at the average life of the product. Lets say you are going to own the TV for 5 years. You can go out and spend $1500 on a TV tomorrow and that TV will still be nice in a year but you will be able to get the same TV for $1200 and replace it in 4 years. The point is that in either case you end up paying $300 dollars a year. You might think that makes both decisions equal but it doesn't.

Lets say the TV has a 1 year warranty. If you buy it when it first comes out it will be covered for 1 out of 5 years or 20% of the time you own it. If you buy cheaper and replace in 4 its covered for 1 out of 4 or 25% of the time.

Also when its time to replace your TV you don't throw out the old one. So after 4 years in the first case you have a 4 year old TV. In the second case you have a new TV for $1200 and a 4 year old TV and have spent $2400.

At 5 years in the first scenario you have a new TV for $1500 (harder to come up with than 1200 unless you have been budgeting all along) and a 5 year old TV and have spent 3000 dollars. In the second scenario you have a 5 year old TV and a 1 year old TV and have spent $2400.

Moral of the story is that I would not buy what is new and expensive unless you really need it.

In that case I wouldn't do either. I would get a cheaper 40" LCD. 46" is a lot of TV for a bedroom but if you think you could use the size I would go with size over quality but my bedroom TV watching is very low. When I want quality I go to the living room screen.

I ended up going with a 42" Vizio LCD. I didn't have too many to choose from (was originally going to go with the 42" LG...but they had none in stock :( ) and the Vizio seemed to have much better viewing for an LCD compared to the others. I gave myself a $500 budget, and got the 42" Vizio for $478 before taxes, so I thought it was a good deal on a semi-decent TV. Thanks for all the input! All the name brand decent LED tvs they had were sold out, and I have a small window to purchase one. I figure we're probably only going to watch minimal tv in the bedroom, and maybe play some video games on it (which is why I wanted the bigger screen, ever play split screen on a small screen?! ;) )

And because someone might ask, it's 1080p and 60MHZ refresh (still not sure what that means)....which was the same as the LG one...
