    Re: Herp Tracking Software reccomendations?
Sorry guys for the bad info. I knew Justin knew the owner is the reason I sent you to him. Was not aware it was sold.

I'm necro-ing this because I'm frustrated; sorry guys :taz:

I really want to "go digital" with my records next year, because I'm sick of the 101 notebooks game. I had every intention of using Vyper -- I downloaded the free trial version, fiddled with it and really really liked it, but didn't buy it right then and there for some stupid reason.

Now Vyper has gone poof. I downloaded Degei and just plain don't like it. I might give it another shot again this evening, but I'm doing so begrudgingly.

I know Metzcal exists, but the download link doesn't work for me.

I still have the free trial of Vyper on my computer, and oddly enough, it still works, even though I downloaded it several months ago. This confuses me, since I thought it was only a 30 day trial. Can any computer savvy folks out there tell me if that means that I should expect it to go "poof" after 30 days of solid use, or is it going to magically going to keep working forever, for some unknown reason? I don't want to enter all my data and then have it shut off randomly one day.

I would be interested in this as well. I signed up on iHerp today and I like it. Just needs a data upload and download feature.

I use and love Degei. There IS a learning curve with it, but once you are used to it, it's a breeze to use, and it keeps great records. It makes recording clutches and setting up records for hatchlings a cinch, and you can print out feeding records for customers. I don't use some of the features it offers, but I probably will when I expand my collection. Degei seems overwhelming at first, but it's got great functionality once set up.

Another alternative is iHerp, which is entirely web-based. iHerp has a lineage database, which is what I use it for, and also allows for record keeping, breeding, etc. It's time consuming to enter your animals the first time, just as Degei is, but once they are in...if someone buys one, you can transfer the animal to them within iHerp, and they'll have the records, pics, etc.

I use a Mac and OSX so it looks like Degei is out. I think iHerp will work well for my small collection.
