I would also have to respectfully disagree with this statement. I can see where you're coming from -- there are a fair number of poor-quality spiders with lots of spotting that have a big, thick, bold dorsal pattern -- but there are also some really nice striped spiders out there whose striping does appear to be genetic. (Not "genetic stripe," the recessive mutation, but a genetic striping ... confusing!)

Depending on the quality and appearance of the striped spider in question, I don't think that a male pastel possible het albino and a reduced pattern male wild-type would be such a bad trade for it at all.

I have produced some spiders with partial stripes and a very reduced pattern. I think it is somewhat genetic because my male throws a lot of them. I personally like the stripe:)
