This is where I was going. Trust is a main factor, but bottom line is obviously cost. If you had $5,000 in your pocket....would you buy a pied for $800 or het-pied for $150 ? Available funds x % of trust = purchase decision .:)

As primarily a corn snake breeder, I deal with a lot more recessive genes that snakes can be het for. The vast majority of 100% hets and possible het snakes I have purchased over the years have proven out for me, but I did have a two that were sold to me as 100% hets from a well-known breeder that didn't prove out when bred to visuals. The seller had gotten out of the business by the time I bred them, so I couldn't even complain. It was disappointing and ruined a breeding project that was really important to me. Those snakes not proving out could have very well been due to honest mix-ups or retained sperm from a previous breeding making them not het for what they were supposed to be het for. Who knows. In any case, I have become somewhat leary of purchasing hets, because you really don't know. I say if you can find the visual and afford to purchase it, go with that, especially with males.
