Last season I bred both a 1300 gram 3-year-old and a 1400 gram 2-year-old. The 2 year-old seemed much more interested in her boyfriend, and I saw many, many locks from them, but she never ovulated. The 3-year old seemed too small and just generally uninterested in the whole thing... and then she laid 5 perfect eggs in July.

So I'd probably go ahead and pair that 18 month-old? But I wouldn't necessarily expect an ovulation.

EDIT: Of course, if you wait another year, you'll probably have a 2500 gram monster female. Hmmm.....

The way I look at it is that if she is ready, she will go, if not she won't! I would try to pair her but I would not get my hopes up. If she doesn't go then you have next year but if she does, it's a bonus!
