you can mix a pastel with pretty much anything that isnt recessive and it will turn out nice.
and now i have a question, if you breed a super pastel, with a pastel ghost, can you get a super pastel ghost? how likely is it?

i figured i'd ask here instead of my own thread

Ghost is recessive so no. If you breed a super pastel 100% het ghost to a pastel ghost you could get a super pastel ghost. Breeding 2 pastel ghosts could also result in a super pastel ghost, or any combination of hets/visuals.

All that we told you does show the genetics of both parents.

Chose super pastel and any mutation you can think of and you'll see the results.

Just so you know, the reason folks didn't know what you were asking is that I think you're a bit confused on the genetics. An animal that expresses the genes from both parents isn't necessarily homozygous for one or both of them. A pastel spider (bumblebee), for example, is heterozygous for both pastel and spider, and not homozygous for any mutation genes.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that in recessive genes, a heterozygous animal does not visually express the trait; only a homozygous animal does. I think that many folks get confused on that and think that any visual morph animal must be homozygous, but for traits that we call "co-dominant" or "dominant" this isn't the case.

Your super pastel male IS homozygous for pastel; every baby he sires will carry the pastel gene. Any "co-dominant" or "dominant" morph female you breed him to could potentially sire double-morph ("designer") mutations in the first generation. Any recessive morph female you breed him to will produce ALL pastels that are 100% heterozygous for the female's morph.

    Hope that helps ...

Co-Dom genes are really cool to work with because if you have a super they will produces a visual heterozygous form. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents on this one and explain a bit more in detail on the genetics.

The Super pastel is basically the homozygous form of the pastel is holding two of the "Co-Dom" genes. Where as the pastel is basically a visual heterozygous form of the super pastel and only holds one of the "Co-Dom" genes.

So when the super pastel breeds with a normal (or any other morph) it will pass the pastel genes to each of the offspring allowing the offspring to technically be a visual het for super pastel and show the pastel colorings.

As where a pastel breeds with a normal (or any other morph) it has about a 50% change of being a pastel and 50% chance of being a normal.

So if you cross a super pastel with a Super Enchi the full clutch should be Enchi Pastels. And on Nov 5th I have 4 eggs from a Super Enchi X Super Pastel crossing and I will let you know how that crossing worked out for me!

The best place to look at what you may get is a genetics wizard I like the one on world of ball pythons.

    just my 2 cents...
