If it's a male, I'd pass, if your intention is to breed in the future. There's really no need to throw a normal male into a breeding program, and given his age, the likelihood that he's more than a normal is pretty rare. Four years ago, if he was something more than a normal, the person buying him would have known with their pocket book.
People complain about how high prices are today, but there are some of us who remember the pricing of just a few years ago and find today's prices to be very reasonable.
In any case - if you like him and want him as a pet - go for it. But if you are asking if he's "special" for a breeding project - my personal opinion is no.
However - are they SURE it's a male? Are you able to properly sex snakes? If so, you could find out if it's really a female. If it's a female, it would be worth picking up to be a future breeder after proper quarantine.
