I may be reading this incorrectly - but is your UTH inside your tank, or do you just mean that the thermometer probe is inside the tank attached directly over the UTH (with the UTH on the bottom outside)?

We had a humidity issue as well so we switched to Eco Earth. Coconut husk reconstituted with water and our humidity is easily 60% all the time. Only issue we have is right after we reconstitute it we have to let it sit for a day or so before changing the subustrate or we get to high humidity. It slao needs to be stired one a week or so to prevernt any mold/mildew build up be I love the stuff.

The UTH is attached to the bottom outside of the tank. The probe is under the bedding right above the UTH. I'm using this mulch which is cypress something. A breeder recommended it. It holds humidity like when I mist it. But the screen cover & head light aren't killing it.

Today I didn't use the heat lamp cause the bulb is broke. Cold side was 72 & hot side was 83. UTH was 92.

My temps vary a lot too. Ball pythons are very resilient creatures. In my opinion, as long as the hot side stays warm enough at night (>80), the snake will stay warm. Some people even let their temps dip at night.

Well today with no heat lamps running. Humidity is 60-70% and cool side is 71 hot side 80. UTH is 92. This ok?

everything but the hot side temps which need to be 90. If your temp on the glass is 92 you could thin out the substrate over the uth. Be careful if your room temp goes up it is quite likely the temp on the glass is likely to go up with it.

Ok I have had my ball python for 3yrs. I have had the zoomeds 55gal UTH on 24/7 without a thermostat. Snake has never got burnt. So now after reading this forum. I feel like I'm not treating them correctly. What do I do? Remove the UTH? I don't have cash for a thermostat. After 3yrs & a healthy snake thought I was doing ok. My snake goes to the hot side / cold side. I'm confused.

I've been having issues with humidity and I want to switch back to coconut husk, but when I used it before it seemed that it blocked heat from the heat tape. Have you had this issue?

Personally I'd leave it be. 3 years and the snake is healthy the temps are fine. If the temps were not fine the snake would be sick dead or dying.

There is no right way to set up an enclosure just ways that work and ones that don't. No enclosure is the same nor house is the same. I am a control freak personally it colours my responses for that I am sorry. I don't like my enclosures varing unless I choose to do that myself. Yours does but unless there is something wrong with your snake there is nothing wrong with your methods.

try the coco husk it may help the humidity or a humidifier near the enclosure. With the time you have had the snake if it is healthy feeding and growing normally your temps are fine. The easiest humidity solution would be a humid hide the snake will use it when it needs to.
