But things I be thinking about are are you going to breed professionally (full time 70% of your income from it) serious amateur (support your hobby costs) or just casually? The casual breeder it is a maybe be. to me I'd be interested in that individual animal, is it good looking do I want it? is it a good feeder? Is it well tempered. Basically the casual breeder it is a pet and having a mean or poor feeder (maybe both) animal is not worth it. Pro breeders don't care if it is a good pet it isn't a pet but an investment in future revenue. Semipro might not be overly bothered by a ill tempered animal as it will pay the bills or at least its own keep.

Yes pieds are in demand. They are one of the morphs that make people that don't even like snakes say, "whoa." Of course there are others that can't stand the looks of them. The best part about having a female pied is what ever you hatch out will be 100% het for pied. If you hatch out a male lesser 100% het pied like you mentioned, you could possibly breed him back to her the following season to try for lesser pieds. That sounds promising to me.

I came real close to purchasing a 50/50 white female pied off fauna for $575 shipped. That's the lowest I've ever seen them listed, but of course it was a hatchling. I didn't go for it because I'm trying for my own pieds this year.

For the right price I'd drive 4 hours.

Pieds in my area are not priced as high as some places. Pricing is at least here on the east coast of Canada is lower on the high end and higher on the low end. Normal are about 50-75$ mojave 300-500 but albinos are 600-900 if you can find them. Pieds are super rare but the demand is quite low and the number of people willing and able to spend pied prices is even lower. I'd normally expect to be in the 1000 range and maybe 1600 for a really nice female generally speaking. But it is really variable the price is what they can get. Around here the very few breeders have limited space so they need to get the young ones out. So pricing starts high and drops dramatically this time of year. The only morphs that hold their price in my area are the bread and butter morphs (Mojave, pastel and spider) The rest go up and down a lot.

Wow $600-900 for an albino still? I think they are worth it. I spent $800 for a 400 gram girl about five years ago and it was a steal at that time. At one of the shows I went to a guy had female albinos reduced to $200 a piece! I would have bought all three but sadly I didn't have rack space left at the time.

For 550 thats a no brainer. But to who said snakes hold value they do not lol. Every year the market floods with what was popular the year before then the price drops. In late 2002 i dropped some serious cash on a male spider. We are talking over 14 k . Now look at them. Now i did however make my investment back huge. But thats what happens. Now with recessive gene animals it take longer to drop. Pieds are being used in every combo just cause they are so awesome to cross. Im hoping to hit jackpot this year with albino pieds and bumblebee pieds. I love the morph.

The problem is location, no one breeds them here so every when one comes up locally it is the price you might expect plus shipping plus some extra because you can see the snake. The last one was in the winter they wanted 1000 but I think took less how much less I don't know. It was gone in 2 weeks.

Yea canada prices are alot different then here. My buddy just did the canada show last weekend and he sold an albino spider male baby for 2500. The same snake is 1000 here all day. But he also had to deal with all the permit and customs hassle and pre ship all his animals to get into the country

It really depends. Are Bananas gonna cost $30,000 forever? No. But we're talking about a pied. When it comes to single gene morphs that have been in the market for a while than your not gonna see a huge drop. The prices of spiders are not really going to drop at this point - especially if you have a proven breeder.

Other than this I agree with the quoted post. It depends on a lot of factors and again - whether or not its going to work into your breeding plans. If your looking to get a pied and you have found a good deal on it - than I say go for it.

I bought 1.2 Pastel het. axanthics for $300.00. They feed great and don't have any health issues aside from a case of mites at the moment (which they acquired after I bought them). Deals exist out there and if you find them and you can use the animals - do it.
