Rat Bite question

something I have fond that works for me is when I go buy my live feeders if I want to do pre killed, I normally bring them home in a box. before I open the box I will give one hard thrust of the box and it will either knock the rat out or kill it.

question about this, if your snake does get in a position you can't see the rats face is it ok to move him around? I know snakes have different personalities but it seems like a bad idea.
Just have that feeling to help protect your snake though

I've moved some around while they are killing the rats. That's usually their most vulnerable position as well as eating. Go gently and you can move the snake around a bit and then back off.

I handle mine all the time when they are on the kill..........I always look for the head to make sure everyone is safe.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I will try to knock the rat out next time. And I really apprecaite the information on cleaning the bite. I am not brave enough to try and move him around when he has a rat, he is a very aggressive eater and I just don't dare stick my hand anywhere near him when he is hungry:D Thanks again

He's concentrating on killing the rat. If his mouth is on the rat he certainly won't let go for your hand. It's basic instinct. Don't be scared. Make sure your snake is safe.

Yup, me too. A little gentle handling to make sure they are ok is alright. If one gets a bad grip I will either gently adjust them, use my tongs to keep the rats teeth at bay or give the rat a good thump on the noggin with my finger as an attitude adjuster. :gj:

If you are not capable to feed live without having to mutilate another animal that's pretty sad.

There is such a thing as respecting the prey item, you don't have to like them (I don't like rats) however there is absolutely no need for unneeded stress and pain even if the animal is set to die shortly after.

Maybe some people need to learn how to feed live :rolleyes:

Cry me a river. They're dirty vermin who are about to get eaten. Dead rats don't talk. Is it inhumane to let them get crushed to death by a snake that might take a few minutes to kill?
