Re: NEED HELP: Hatchling with belly button issue?
OK thanks for all the quick replies!! I originally thought it was umbilicus and wasn't concerned...and now that it is looking more normal I'm feeling much better about it. Thanks again!! I'll give an update tomorrow.
Re: NEED HELP: Hatchling with belly button issue?
I'm glad it worked out. :D It was pretty strange looking from what I've experienced. Never a dull moment with these worms. :P
Re: NEED HELP: Hatchling with belly button issue?
It happens. nothing to worry about. Just leave it alone and in time it will fall off and the hole will seal and heal.
I used to experience this when I rushed them out of their eggs... now that I don't do that any more, It hasn't happened again.

Do you mean "rushed" by cutting/cutting early? I did cut these at day 52...but this hatchling was the last out...on like day 65...so she didn't seem rushed. I have heard before that cutting early makes them stay in the eggs longer. I'm not sure if that's true, but it seemed to be the case with this one!
Also, she/he is looking much better today. It is clearly healing up. I think that maybe it was bleeding a little and then got kinda gunked up..and that's why it looked so big...it was like a scab.

I don't normally cut eggs any more. I only see things like this when I cut them.
IMHO the entire process goes better when you don't cut the eggs... all the way up to how quickly and easily the hatchling eats. That said I will still do it on a rare occasion...
