Another breeding weight question

There is no minimum weight written in stone, 1200 grams is simply the most widely accepted minimum weight for female. Remember, females can breed at lower weights, however you increase your chances of slugs, smaller clutches and even ending up with an egg bound female. It's best to follow the best practices and breed females with enough size to support eggs, some clutches can weigh as much as 600+ grams can your female afford to loose that much weight?

I would say take your time and get her up to weight, you can try early next "season".

In bold is the most misconstrued rumor ever put out. Females of ANY age and ANY size sill trow slugs and or become egg bound. No one really knows why females slug out. Was it heat/cool related, health genetics and so on.

Most females that are egg bound ive seen are either too LEAN for their length, not best feeders even though of what some say are PROPER weight. Or poor genetics, this i cant verify but egg binding isnt a common occurrence so hard to fully say genetics play a role. But i would say its there for a reason.

Meant to quote your entire post but failed on my phone. We all know you can breed smaller females, that's great, should we breed females at 800 grams because you have? No. Every female is different, immature and under weight female CAN face complications..

You stated females that are small are more prone to it which is FALSE.

In my original reply I gave my advice, I wait till my females are 1500g, have hatched 87 royals this year, and had 9 slugs, two of those in a ten egg clutch. I would not try to lock a 800g gram female, because I would not risk the health of one of my pets, this is still a hobby to me and my breeders are still my pets. If you want to breed at 800g then that's up to you, but please don't tell me it's good advice that should be offered in this forum.

Again where the HELL is this 800g breeding females coming from. Never did I or anyone in this thread state to breed 800g females.

I apologize, I misread your original post, no need to get all wound up, I see now you stated you have an 800 gram female who WILL be ready to go. I hope you can accept my apology. However, to the original poster, I still stand by my statements.

Hey I'm not trying to say anything or take sides I'm just showing you where he is getting that from. I don't have any experience breeding this will be my first year and I found this post very informative. Thanks for helping the newbies out you guys made alot of good points
