The mites are the least of his problems. I'm confident that your new ball is dehydrated and petsmart's feeding schedule was not frequent enough. I'd build him a wet hide to help him hydrate and once feeding begins make it weekly. As far as the mites, a squirt of Dawn in his bath will get them off. If he's about to shed don't over bathe. Best bath time in my experience is after his eyes go back to clear. Whatever you do, don't take him back.

I'd get a thermostat too for that UTH....that's probably why he's staying on his cool side because the hot side is FAR too hot. My small ZooMed UTH was exceeding 130* without a thermostat....

thanks for the advice everyone. i will be able to pickup a thermostat for the uth next wednesday a well as a digital thermometor. in the mean time i placed some extra paper towels under the hide on the hot side along with an extra thermometer on the ground there, its reading 94-95 degrees
gonna add a sponge in his hides to help the dehydration and prob give him another few days before trying to feed him
i havnt noticed any mites since i cleaned him and his cage on thursday.
