I have had a few rescues (5 in the last year) each needs to be evaluated individually The first thing is to make sure that the new home is set up perfectly as others have said. Often I see animals that are very badly dehydrated a bad shed is often a sign of poor hydration. If the skin is wrinkly and dry looking not glossy and shiny then a soak is the first thing upon arrival. I find the animal is already stressed from travel so a warm (84-7ºF) water soak (no deeper than half way up the sides) in a dark container (I use a wash basin covered with a towel) for 20 min or so will do wonders. Let the snake be for a few days after that try to keep the humidity up during this time (65-75%) peace and quiet. Then you will need to check it over again look for mites and or any damage it might have. I don't mess with the shed as too much stress is a bad thing, let the snake get it off itself for now. Often when the snake is well hydrated they will get it off on their own. If not the next shed will take care of that anyway.

Got dimmer today and spent way to much on sweet hide/water dish, but it was quick and gives me ideas for my next lizzard project. I still need to a new UTh and way to check temps and humidity. But need to decide this weekend what we want to keep him in. But I know it is a bit more stable than we started. We are going to get the top foiled up (TY for the link) when I get done here.

Still need to deal with the shed, wish I had done that before feeding. Oh and while I was getting the tank cleaned and hides put in I decided to try a frozen/thaw it took right on it, seemed a little confused since it didn't put up a fight, but seemed very happy after. Seems pretty good natured, and not really to stressed, I think there was much younger kids where he came from so even with the move, this may already be helping.

So all in all I think I have it fairly stable for the moment but still need to get to either a new set up or get this one up.

Oh it was skinnier than I thought. About 22 to 24 inches long. Any adivce on what size and how often to feed to get it healthy?

Thanks everyone I know I still have much more to do, but you all have really helped get me started off and in the right direction. Not nearly as overwhelmed as I was. Crossing my fingers, that all is well and can get healthy soon.
