Re: Crazy bad snake bite (not me, guy at pet store)
ya know, before seeing that, i picked up Jackson no problem! After seeing that bite, though... But I waved several dead mice and rats in front of his face without even so much as a threat, so if he wont strike them, I don't see why he would just come after me for no reason! I guess I just have a new respect for him and will practice more responsible handling.
That anaconda bite was pretty brutal!

When retics bite, they tend to shred more than puncture, so their bites are a bit worse than others.

I have retics, burms, bps and boas. I've been bit by all except a retic. My husband got nailed by a retic one day and it was nasty. Not only did it bleed a lot, but the top of his hand swelled up like a dang softball.

He also got nailed by one of our female albino burms. She's a hot mess when hungry and the twice he's been nailed was feeding time. The last time she was not letting go and I had to carry her body while she was still wrapped up one his arm to the bathroom to run her under warm water so she'd let go. He had a few teeth he had to remove a few weeks later. As for me, I've been lucky enough to only get bit by babies :D

As of bites... I've never been tagged by something bigger than medium ball female and that was small pinches.. but I saw few of pictures and videos over internet...
That together with small size of my living place holds me from buying bigger snake... I believe i dont go with something bigger than carpet python for while...

Anyone here have retics and bps? Are either of them more likely to bite than the other, or was it perhaps just not a good time to clean his tank? That got me a little jumpy...

Balls are one of the most docile snakes on the planet. Like any species there's going to be an occasional one that is more aggressive than normal, or more docile than normal. The babies seem pretty bitey when they're really young but since we're talking babies here they're not going to be able to do any real damage to you during that phase.

I have to wonder whether the retric in your story wasn't used to being around people, whether the pet shop employee had been near prey earlier and smelled "like food," or why there weren't two people involved with the cleaning to make sure everything is kept under control.
