Re: Crazy bad snake bite (not me, guy at pet store)
ya know, before seeing that, i picked up Jackson no problem! After seeing that bite, though... But I waved several dead mice and rats in front of his face without even so much as a threat, so if he wont strike them, I don't see why he would just come after me for no reason! I guess I just have a new respect for him and will practice more responsible handling.
That anaconda bite was pretty brutal!

Anyone here have retics and bps? Are either of them more likely to bite than the other, or was it perhaps just not a good time to clean his tank? That got me a little jumpy...
Balls are one of the most docile snakes on the planet. Like any species there's going to be an occasional one that is more aggressive than normal, or more docile than normal. The babies seem pretty bitey when they're really young but since we're talking babies here they're not going to be able to do any real damage to you during that phase.
I have to wonder whether the retric in your story wasn't used to being around people, whether the pet shop employee had been near prey earlier and smelled "like food," or why there weren't two people involved with the cleaning to make sure everything is kept under control.
