What you end up with is chunky little weanlings that weigh as much as a small size rat typically weighs.
When I cull down to 4-5 kits by week 2 the remaining ones end up HUGE at 4 weeks old :P
Well being as how I am just starting, I won't be getting rid of that many that soon. My snakes only eat live and the balls both eat small rats. So they won't be taken from mama before they are weaned. My baby rtb has only eaten small mice so far. Hope I don't have a problem switching to rats. But I don't anticipate the boa will eat more than 1 from this litter. The ones that i don't hold back for future breeding will be sold to a friend as feeders after they are weaned. So if the plan holds there shouldn't be any chunkies!

The biggest litter I had was 23 babies, of course with that many they tend to be smaller than average pinks.
The first few litters are always exciting, but when you get a colony, and the pinks just explode all at once, you have your hands full.

Thanks Trey! Yeah, I know the excitement will wear off. This is going to be part of a family business, so there should be a payoff for all the work. I can't wait till we are getting multiple litters a week! And hopefully the demand will be close to the amount produced!:please: We have an huge area nearby that has repeatedly been on craigslist begging for different size rats! Which was part of my reason for getting into this. Looking forward to having my hands full...
Re: My first female just had her babies!
Well The rtb had no problem taking a few of these. Just been eating a bit more frequently. He took 4 for me. So I have 5 of the babes left...2 males and 3 females. My step-son claimed the extra male, who will not be a breeder.
Lil Mama was pregnant when I got her, and as it turns out, I do believe I bought the daddy of this litter as well :D He was the only Siamese that they breeder had that was breeding age.
But here are some pics of the babes we are keeping...
Now I know this little guy, Archemedes, is a Rex, but what would you call his markings/coloring?

This is my little Siamese girl, Sadie, who is going to be bred back to her daddy.

This little guy, Jericho, is the one my step-son decided to keep.

And these 2 little girls, Jinko and Cookie, are gonna be bred to their brother Archemedes.

Re: My first female just had her babies!
Actually, no, he is not blue at all. His head is a light beige and his back markings are a darker beige, and kind of look like an argyle sock lol. And his eyes are ruby. Thought there might be a name for the dual colors or the shape of the markings.
Here is a pick of his face... I think you may be right about the siamese, now that I take a closer look... (sorry it's a bit blurry)

So does the color on his face and the ruby eyes kinda confirm he is a siamese hooded?
Re: My first female just had her babies!
congrats on your first litter :) We had our first liter on Sunday, second on Monday and a third yesterday - Today we had a female who died before she had her babies. Never thought i'd be excited about rat babies.
