I totally agree! My husband is way onto this show, and I don't understand why. We even have gators!

Animal channel is the pits now, I turned the tv to swamp wars to see what it was like, and within ten minutes someone said" their first instinct is to bite you, then they will constrict you". What!? They only constrict food or what they perceive as food, and their first instinct is to get away from you!

I agree. there are almost no positive shows on reptiles. I actually stumbled upon the "black mamba" episode of Nature on PBS and I was so pleasantly relieved to see a good educational program about a snake.

Yep, Animal Planet is garbage. I never turn it on which is sad because it used to be a great channel.

Animal Planet, Surprisingly "Human" is the new catch phrase, but in "reality" it is all sensationalist trash. It used to be an educational channel, I used to learn things, but now shows like "Infested," "The Haunted," and "I shouldn't be Alive" chronicle the tales of idiots who happen to have neighbors who might have a pet. Animals themselves have become irrelevant. National Geographic Wild has replaced it to a degree, and the shows and specials are pretty careful not to directly insult anyone, but the tone in the reptile episodes still makes me uncomfortable.

Don't forget "Fatal Attractions"...that one is a winner . I have to say though the new show "Tanked" looks pretty cool.

I am afraid the simple answer to your question is that we are now living in an era of television where "Reality TV" sells the greatest market shares, and as a result, anything goes and its every network for itself. It doesn't even need to be about animals, or history anymore!

I'm going to boycott this station...this is awful...

While I agree that shows like this are National Inquirer level crap-fests, it should give you an indication of where the sensibilities of most people lie.

The general public doesn't want documentaries about black mambas, they want sensationalistic shows that haver an element of over the top danger. These shows are in the same vein as programs about the Kardashians or Ice-T and his giant-knockered barbie doll wife.

Animal Planet is doing what Animal Planet needs to in order to sell advertising space. They can air programs educating the public about the many subtle yet fascinating differences between BCI and BCC and go out of business, or sell sensationalistic shows that John Q. Public wants to watch.

We're blamed away the burmese python issue on Mother Nature - yep, the Reptile Nation had no hand in that.

    What about iguanas?

    What about white lipped pythons?

    What about rock pythons?

    What about varanids?

What about the 45 bother non-native species populating Florida?

Were those all from acts of Nature?

There would be no rock pythons to write shows about if people in THIS hobby had acted more responsibly. Why do we so blithely ignore our role in the problem yet flip out every time AP airs one of these shows? If they bother you, don't watch them.

Oh, you can write them, you can write their sponsors, but if you really want to address the ISSUE, rail against the idiots who created and are still contributing to this problem. Find a way to support the fight against releasing pets into the environment. Find away to come up with a strategy to deter morons from being able to own these pets in the first place.

I swear, there are five threads bashing these programs to every one examining how the Hobby played a major role in the real problem. How about one examining ways in which we can stop this non-native species proliferation from occurring in the first place?

Silly Whiteman, using brain instead of gonads for thinking.

It's soooooo much easier to just believe everything on tv. That way there is no personal responsibility for anything that happens. Someone else did it. Someone else said it's true. Someone else has to deal with the problem so..... I can sit my big fat ass on my big fat couch and be totally not responsible for ANY of it, which MUST all be true because it's on tv.

    Sigh.

Money. Like you said, it's all about money. Pretty f'd up from where my big fat ass is sitting on my big fat couch. Of course, taking any responsibility in this society is veritably unheard of. MickyD's makes you fat, not your choice to eat there. Schools make your kids dumb, not the fact that parents do little to teach their own kids anything at home. Society makes people into criminals, they don't REALLY want to be robbing and assaulting and doing drugs, but work is hard and hard to find. Video games desensitize all who play them towards violence of heinous nature, yup yup yup. It's not anyone's personal fault, nope nope nope. It's someone else's. Must be. Because if it's not, then we're a nation of ignorant louts too stupid to know that we're the fools paying to have these stupid shows, games, foods, lifestyles spoonfed to us. And we're too smart for that. Just ask your average American, they'll tell you how smart they are while eating that extra large order of fries, playing grand rape auto, waiting on Gordo to bring the next 8ball or batch of X, collecting unemployment for just as long as possible while having their 8th grader reading at a 4th grade level but being grand puba of WOW.

Yeah, I'm so proud to be an American...

I prefer discovery or Nat Geo. I only watch animal planet for river monsters.
