    Really ??

I had no idea a Hogg Island was considered a redtail.

I made my comment because most redtail's I've seen max out at around 8'. The Hogg Island pair I saw at the show was 12' + easily.

Unless they were mislabeled at the show ? Is there another species with a similar name that gets bigger ?

Maybe people don't call them red tails but they are BCI as well, just a specific locality. I think the ones you saw must have been mislabeled. My understanding is that they average 4.5 to 6.5 feet.

You are correct. They are an island locality RTB(They come from Cayas Cochino, or Island of the Hogs/Pigs). Nearly all island locality boa's are considered dwarf as they are smaller than mainland boas who have always had more access to a naturally larger pool of food resources, and thus, are naturally a much larger snake. I've heard of a 5' Hogg females rearing completely healthy, full sized clutches.

If you saw 12' Hoggs, they were definitely mislabeled and horribly misrepresented, seeing as how that's more than double their average length haha

I didn't know that BCI was considered red tail, I was pretty sure that only BCC was. I think people slap the name "red tail boa" on all boas. I too have never heard of hoggs being considered red tails. My boy certainly has a very red tail, but "red tail" he is not.

BCCs are the true-redtails. BCIs are usually referred to as "common boas".

People commonly refer to imperators as red-tails but that is not accurate. It's compounded by the fact that more and more people routinely buy and sell imperators that are labeled as red-tails.

In other words, the once purposeful misrepresentation of the term is now becoming so prevalent, that most people don't know the difference between a true RTB and a common boa.

Yep that is technically correct. I think in one of my previous posts I put RTB in "". People just tend to call them that.

The red on a true RTB's tail is so much more vibrant, differences between a BCI and a BCC really are insane, but as long as a breeder identifies it as BCC RTB or a BCI RTB, hearing them both refered to as RTB really doesn't bother me. But it is a shame so many chose not to identify locality and genus and just sell them as RTBs.

    heathers*bps,

He seems ok. Not sure how long after a fall that something could show up. But its been 24 hrs and he has been in and out of his hide a couple of times to sit in his warm spot and than back to his hide. He hasn't been as interactive today, but you know after that I probably wouldn't be either. I figured I would leave him alone for a couple of days and than bring him back out.
