Re: One of my pregnant rats started bleeding 1 1/2 days ago...Help
I'm so sorry for your loss. One of my favorite females had similar troubles a few weeks ago. One ended up stuck in the birth canal and she had been bleeding for 32 hours. I gave her a warm bath, massaged her and placed her back in the tub. A few hours later, I checked on her to find 16 dead pinks and one sad looking mommy who was still trying to care for the babies.
It's quite heartbreaking when it's a pet, even if she was breeding for feeders. Once again, sorry for your loss.

Not too harsh at all. I shouldn't have gotten so attached but I can't help it. I know they are breed for food but I figure as long as I am as good to them as I can be until that time, then it helps me cope.
My husband thinks I am silly because I won't talk about feeding them in the rat room and once they are removed from the rat room I don't take them back if they are not eaten. They are housed separately in my room. I know it is crazy but I don't want the rats to know what is coming. Not that the rat could tell them but who knows. Just him being scared of me now could be enough.
:)On good news, my most favorite pet rat is giving birth right now and I even caught some it on video. It is the first time I caught one in the act. Now she is sweet. She let me pick her up even yesterday. :D

I figure if the other rats smell the snake on a scared freaked out rat they may associate the smell of snake with something bad. Leading to rats that may bite the snake when being fed off. So what I do is If one or more isn't eaten I place it in a cool off tank for 24 hours to chill out and calm down and get the smell of snake off. I don't know if it really helps but I like the system.

Glad to see it isn't just me. We keep a tank in our room for the ones that weren't lucky enough to be eaten quickly.
