Agreed. That also looks to be too far up from the vent to be her preparing the first egg for deposition.

That sounds like the "waxy" substance that many females will pass just prior to egg laying. However, it may also be her attempt at lubricating to get that egg out. I personally would go ahead and aspirate about 20-25 mLs out of that egg if she hasn't passed it in the next 48 hours. More than likely you will lose the egg, but you will still have the female (alive). I have witnessed an aspirated egg make it through incubation to hatching.

A little off topic, but how does one aspirate an egg? I know the general concept, but would like to see how it's actually done...Just curious.

A needle is inserted into the egg, and the contents are aspirated out, making the egg smaller and easier for the female to pass. If the egg is not located at the vent, then the needle is inserted through the abdomen of the snake to aspirate the contents of the egg.
