HELP: Snickers has now refused food 3 weeks in a row!(torn what to do)

Well easiest way to find out if it is the bedding causing the off-feed is to change it back. However wait a week with no handling and no feeding. After so many changes your snake probably won't eat either way. Don't panic over it. Snakes going off feed for a month or more is not uncommon. They can be stubborn!:rolleyes:

Pine and Cedar are not ideal for snakes- we've established that. If it gets to the point where you're having trouble finding aspen without these then switch over to newspaper.

Everyone here has different opinions based upon their experiences. What works for one will not work for you and every snake is different. Being ticked off about the situation and scared for your BP is understandable and we all need to vent from time to time BUT getting snarly at others for simply asking why and where information is coming from isn't nice.

I for one would like to know if a study has been done on the different materials for snake bedding because then we all would know "its been proven" and we can take it as fact and change our enclosures if need be. I'll hit up some scientific journals I know of while my painting dries :gj:

Take everything with a grain of salt on here and make sure to do your own research based upon your gut instinct.:) If your gut is telling you to switch back then do it! Just realize your snake will be off feed for a few more weeks which is not uncommon.

Everything will be back to normal eventually *HUG* Just stay sane :please:

I didn't get snarly at others for asking questions.

I got "snarly" because of all the posts on this forum praising "tractor supply co. aspen bedding" only to discover it has pine in it.(Thanks again LGray23 for warning me about that!)

I indeed change back to petco bedding like I stated I would and sure enough Snickers finally ate again tonight.

Are you sure that Snickers is a girl? I'm used to males going off feed for up to 8 months during the breeding season with no ill effects. As long as you're not losing weight, you should be fine :)

my girlfriend works at petco and we buy our aspen from walmart. Cheaper even with her 20% discount :)

We decided not to get Snickers sexed. We have always just always referred to Snickers and a "she" but in all likelyhood I'm guessing Snickers is a "he" at this point.

Snickers didn't lose any weight and ate again last night so I really feel like the Tractor Supply Co. aspen was the problem(regardless if it was the "pine" additives or just the pungent wood scent of it) We changed back to petco aspen and Snickers ate again.
