Yes, that is how I have mine. I have the ZooMed UTH with the Hydrofarm probe between that and the glass outside on the bottom of the tank.

If the probe is inside the tank and gets moved the zoo med uth's can get to 120 degrees or more.
That can be said for a probe pulled off the uth outside the enclosure too. The probe cannot move in or out. There was a post a while back of someone whom caught the probe cord and pull it loose of a rack and lost most of the snakes. The probe must not come free an any set up. I use both in and out, inside is absolutely more accurate.
Personally I like to always use a back up system for all my set ups hydrofarms seem to do a great job here.
So lets just give the snake a chance at moving the probe :rolleye2:
Sorry, I have to say I think your wrong in giving that advise, but to each their own...

I can't move the probe with out a putty knife I have never had a snake even wiggle one. It is also how the designer of the herpstat recommends. Personally I don't think it makes much difference if the probe moves there is a disaster. In variable room temps outside needs to be adjusted every day. I don't think there is a right or wrong just different.

Re: Uth question
I have the probe inside under my substrate, I figured if I put the probe on the outside of the cage then the temp would be different inside... lol. I just taped the probe down and my ball hasn't moved it in the five months he's been in there.
