    Is a heating pad usually needed or are lamps enough? Right now we are just using lamps above the tank (15 gallon for the time being until he gets bigger) but I'm starting to wonder if we should also (or instead) be using a pad?

    i have a 10.5" x 11" exo terra heat wave desert heat pad.

    geek_girl - heat pads are better at supplying the belly heat that is needed to properly digest a meal. lamps really only provide the basking heat but these snakes dont bask, per say. plus they're nocturnal so light 24/7 would just stress them out. there are heat emitters with no light if a lamp is a must but also lamps suck out any and all humidity...
