I say feed what you are comfortable with. I feed mine live.
I hold the rat by the tail and place it in the tub with my animal, i place the rat on the other side and the rat just sniffs around. You can usually tell if your snake is going to eat. Mine usually looks at the rat and follows the movement. Usually they strike right away and there is no room or time for the rat to ever hurt my snakes and if they are not interested i kill the rat and leave the rat with the snake till night and if not i freeze it and use it next week of throw it away. yup yup

I do f/t, just because that's what he was eating when I got him. It's cheaper for me to have a bunch of food chilling in my freezer. No ethics go into it for me. If I got him eating live, he would be eating live.

When feeding, I do use forceps to hold the tail and zombie dance a bit. He's luckily always taken it without a problem or hesitation. I actually just fed him 10 minutes ago and when I went to bring the prey into his enclosure... WHAM! He lunged straight into the glass haha. He was hungryyy.

I feed F/T if I can. My blood doesn't seem to mind his f/t, but I just today, hat to put my ball back on live because he has refused f/t for the past 3 months.
