Okay I know what I want .... thinking about a pied and a bumblebee ... And then I can breed the bee offspring back to the bee and hopefully get a killerbee. And then I can breed an offspring of some sort to my butter and eventually come out with queen bees... All the while giving me a batch of het pieds that I can breed back to the piebald and get some pieds down the road :)

Yes, I'm very liking this idea. WOoooo :)

I've come to the realization that I really like possible het females.

I'm building a small army of female morphs that are also possible het for various recessives. My basic inclusion criteria is that she has to be nice enough looking that I won't be that sad if she doesn't prove out ... But if she does, man will I be happy :P

I like this method because if you look around, you can often find really nice possible het animals for not too much more than the baseline price of a nice example of that morph. Looking for female morphs 100% pied, on the other hand, it seems like you'll usually pay at least 3x the base price, maybe more.

... Just something to think about -- especially if you're already contemplating the route of making your own hets; with possible hets you can plan on going that route, with the exciting possibility in the wings that you may just get quite a jumpstart.

What a great thought. You have a point there. I am still deciding, gosh, because pieds are so hard to find and het pieds are easier ... esp poss het pieds. So I think I MAY go the route of the bee I want ... and maybe a fire :) And then throw in some het pieds into the mix at some point ....

I would get a pastel or fire or other COLOR based morph het pied. To me, spider pieds don't really show off much cool spider traits! they are all white (which is cool!) but they aren't necessarily my top choice when it comes to pied combos. Pumpkin pieds, on the other hand, are amazing and I'd totally want one! That doesn't mean I won't eventually be breeding my spider and piebald, but it's not my first combo! I've heard that morphs with pattern tend to get obliterated by the piebald and become a snake with a neat face and almost all white body. Impressive for genes, but less cool as far as looks go, since you could just buy a high white pied, not as much my fav!

But i say pick a few different het pieds or poss het pied morphs you;d like and see what you can find! Good luck!!

    Thanks!!

I am probably buying a pied baby here soon and have the opportunity to get an orange belly het pied with her. So .. the question is ... is the orange belly similar to the yellow belly? Would it still be a pumpkin pied or would it be different???

I put it in the world of ball pythons breeder thing and it just came up as "Orange belly, pied" ....

Oh, nevermind. The orange belly is the Ben siegle line of yellow belly, so I guess I would be able to make pumpkin pieds :) This is one of my favorite morphs :) :) :)

I need to stop reading so fast ^_^

If you're interested in making pumpkin pieds, you need to talk to Justin Kobylka, who was the original breeder of them. They are more than just a YB pied.;)
