I'm assuming I need a better UTH, I got the thermostat and thermometer probe laying right next to each other, on top of the substrate and I haven't seen either break 85..

What are your room temps? How think is the substrate?

Anywhere from 72-80. I just spread the substrate a lot thinner and that helped a bit. Cool side is sitting at 77 consistently though and I don't like that.:(

first thing is to try to insulate the sides and back and even the top and give it a while and see if the temps change some. It is a place to start without spending cash.

the glass tanks i do have which at the moment is only 2 of them i use the zoomed dial type thermostat..its cheap but does the job since its just for belly heat for 2 kingsnakes. On my rack thought its gotta be Helix and at the moment i have 3 Helix which ive never had a problem since day one....glass tanks are horrible at holding the heat anyways so as someone mentioned earlier just insulate the sides and back of your tank and see what temps that gets you:snake:
