After you've made him too tired to fight back (from sitting on him for a half hour), THEN you go in for the finish. I guarantee you that it would be very boring to watch, but "more" realistic.
If you want to see two guys flinging and swinging, go watch kickboxing, that's what its designed for. I frankly don't find any of the "fight sports" that requires that much ref intervention to be fun at all.
But thats not whats happening. They're sitting on them for a decision. Not to finish them. In your average joe fight, that does not happen. It's not realistic at all, to sit on top of someone, and hope for something to happen. Certainly not a ref to come along and stop it. An average joe fight lasts 30 seconds, tops, because someone gets tired and/or gets knocked out. No one realistically waits it out, because a majority of people aren't trained fighters. If GSP or Brock was on the streets, their strategy would be changed completely, to the point where I don't think they would know what to do... They train specifically to go the distance, and not risk anything. Here in NM, Jackson's is NOTORIOUS for this. But fighting is all about that risk. If I wanted a sport where I watched people play it safe, I'd watch a crocheting or sewing competition.
And what about Jiu Jitsu? I can't even begin to tell you about how much strategy goes into jiu jitsu. I want that, and I want a fight. But your saying I have to pick and choose. Either like MMA for what its become, or go watch a kickboxing match, with no ground fighting. I don't want to watch man humping for 25 minutes, I'm sorry, I don't. I want a fight, either standing or on the ground. But not two stagnant men.
