Re: Hissed at for the first time - I feel so special!
lol yeah the hissing is just downright adorable. the 1st time my girl hissed at me i was surprised by it once i realized she was hissing but then laughed hard at how it looked.
first of all she was deep shed and was hiding in one of the hide boxes and i had to go in to spray the bark.
the second i started sliding the door open she inflated her body and let out a long loud hiss but in the process of doing that her rising body made the hide box rise up making her visible underneath it.

lucky for her she was in shed or i would've taken her out just for spite (to show her that hissing wont make me go away).
the next time she hissed at me she was not happy that i was trying to remove her from underneath my 9 yr old daughter's shirt. she had gone up the wrist opening, all the way through the sleeve and had found a nice warm cozy spot in my daughters armpit with most of her body still in the sleeve, lol. when i went to gently pull her out she inflated her body making it fit very tight in the sleeve. as i slowly tried to easy her body out her last ditch effort was to hook the tip of her tail on the hem at the bottom of the sleeve.

at her size, I left her there until she decided to come out on her own.
faced with something THAT big i'd leave her be too. :P

    Heh heh,

I love the "talkers" - the two normal hatchlings I sold last were almost constant hissers. :D

I usually find my self talking back to them - it may be senility rather than anthropomorphism though. :P

I have yet to earn the honor. Even in full blue, my snakes don't hiss. One will just ball up if she doesn't want to be touched, and the other doesn't ever seem to care.

Not sure who all keeps Boas and Balls, but I have both and while I've been hissed at by a few BP's will little issue, a boa is totally different and much scarier (at least for me). My favorite pair are Central American's, which are smaller, but are typically more aggressive.
BP's just puff and push the air out of their noses or mouth/nose, but it's a flattening of the body. A Boa will rear up, open its mouth, and push the air out in the classic snake hiss. Not only is it crazy to see, but it's super loud as well. If my guy hisses at me (he does when I go in to get him) and I put him back while he's still hissing, I can hear it clear in the other room. I'm sure there are some good youtubes out there for the hissing boa.

Haha, this amused me. :P I've been hissed at a few times. Only by my Normal male because prior to me owning him, he hadn't been handled in two to three years. Except his hisses were usually followed by a lovely strike.

I know! I was shaking, I was so terrified. Or perhaps I was shaking because I was giggling and snorting and hoping he wouldn't notice. He's bashful, you know.

Crazy, crazy! I just got hissed at for the first time today, too! Axel's UTH therm-probe had popped out, and I keep the probe under his warm hide. Well, I wanted to know which hide he was in...sooo, I poked him. The noise freaked me out, haha, but once I realized it was a hiss, had a good laugh.

i think bp hiss is more scarier than boa, because we dont know what she will do next, attack or hide her head.boa is in another hand, they hiss n they will strike.so bp have a little more suprise than boa.
