That was actually one of the pieces of advice I was given when I was first looking into getting a rainbow boa! The shirt thing. I had forgotten all about that, funny it should come up again!

The shirt thing is for puppies. You take your shirt and wrap a ticking clock in it (simulate a heart beat). Supposedly calms them when your not around. I personally think its dumb, but i've herd it form enough dog people. I just got a puppy last week and I don't do it with her. Little tough love and they calm down on their own.
Snakes couldn't give a crap lol.

Congrats on the new snake : )
As far as the shirt thing goes, I've never tried it. It does seem logical though, if the snake has your scent in its enclosure and gets used to it, then you pick it... It would recognize the scent as nonthreatening, as that scent is in its place of safety.

There is a corn snake message board I frequent and the scenting has been suggested a number of times there. I didn't do it with either of my snakes and they are perfectly fine being handled. The corn is a little flighty until you get him out of his enclosure. I think you should be fine without it.

Congrats! The shirt isn't going to make a difference he'll never instantly be comfortable with you. They need to acclimate, and they need time. Just give him all his necessities, and give him time.
