YEAH i get that one too from my mojo girl.
scares the ****ens outta me when she focuses on my hand when i'm cleaning.

see, i clean the terrarium 1 half at a time and i clean whatever 1/2 she's not in at the moment so i'm not disturbing her by taking out. the only time she really gets taken out is for handling and even then that is 2 x's p/ week (as long as shes not in shed or digesting a meal).
i havent heard her do an actual hiss since the 1st time she shed for me back in december. it was SO cute too cuz she was always curled up in one of her hide boxes and i'd go in to clean or whatever and she'd start hissing as soon as i slid one of the glass doors open and didnt stop until i closed it back up and walked away. she'd puff up full of air too, raising the hide box as she did so.
now she does what i can only describe as a "huff"...it's a very sharp, short, loud & sudden "SS!" and she only does it when jerking her head back.
does that sound actually have a name already or am i ok calling it a huff?

Thanks! Minnie is my favorite snake, even though she's not a visual pied.

That weird little partial ringer is the thing that made me pick her out. The white doesn't come up very far and you can't see it in that shot, but she has yellow/orange that trails down onto her belly for about 1/3 of her body starting at the tail.

Moocher suits her too, BTW. This girl weighs about 400 gms and she'd weigh 1000 if I fed her the way she wants to eat. I give her a f/t rat wean once every five days, and she's looking for more as soon as she gets it down. I don't want to feed her any more than that because I don't want to grow her up too fast. I plan on breeding her eventually and I don't want to be trying to breed a big fat snake that hasn't matured sufficiently in other ways to handle the task. I hate slugs.

She and my pied girl Dorothy came from Peter Kahl. I paid a little more for them than I could have paid elsewhere, but I feel like I got my money's worth and then some. They're amazingly healthy snakes with great appetites and not at all picky about their food. They take rats, mice, live, p/k, f/t --anything that is plonked down in front of him. I don't have a very good shot of Dorothy, but here is what she looks like:

I also have a male het pied that's an absolute jerk. Every time I open the tub he either gives me the stink-eye or strikes! Glad I'm not the only one with this problem.

She's a looker! I really wish that the hissing could be one definite determiner for telling if you have a het pied. My pos het pied girl hisses like crazy (never once bit me though).

She did a fake strike (one of those "bump" strikes with her mouth closed) at me when I was putting her back into her cage today. My arm was only 8 inches from her and she could have really nailed me but as it were she didn't touch me and I only caught the movement out of the corner of my eye. Maybe she would have preferred that I left that big load of turdage and urates in her little home.

Minnie is a hoot. She works so hard at trying to convince me that she is a Serpent to be Feared™ But she's never latched on yet.
