Not even a photograph? How do you know it's a burn?

You don't put petroleum based products on a burn because the trap in heat and can make a burn hurt worse. Since a snake doesn't have many nerve endings in the belly i'm not sure it matters. Did they have a heat rock?

I don't personally know it's a burn without a picture, they specifically said it was a burn. Which is why I gave advice for a mild burn, IF it is a burn.

No heat rock, they said a UTH, I'm assuming without a thermostat or anything...

I think it is best never to assume. Find out about temps, setup, pics etc. IMO I would have guessed the snake was likely getting into shed. In anycase, your mild burn advise seemed fine, but I think pics really were in order.
