Looking to get a new TV!

Why all the hate on the Plasma TV's? We have a Samsung 50" Plasma and I have not seen a better picture yet. You really can't get any better of a picture than you can with a plasma. I have no problems in a bright room either.There is no motion blur like led/lcd's have. The newer higher Hz led/lcd's are much better with the motion than older ones that are less than 200Hz. We also have a Samsung 35" Lcd tv. The only down sides to a Plasma vs. an Led/Lcd is that the Plasma can and will "Burn in" really easy so you can't pause a movie for more than a few minutes and leave the tv on. The Plasma also uses way more electricity. Plasmas are great but with how fast technology moves the Led's are getting better pretty fast. The life span is comparable between them as well so I am not sure where the plasma short life span came from.

If I were to get a new TV though and had the money I would buy one of the new Led Samsung tv's. I love our Plasma but the newer Led's are cheaper to operate.

The burn in factor also means that you really can't use plasmas for video games - the static displays burn in, and then your TV is essentially ruined for anything else. Also, LCD and LED LCD TVs have fast enough response times now that the blur factor really isn't an issue anymore.

Many hours of gaming have been played on our plasma with no ill effects.

I think plasma TVs get talked down a lot which is sad. They do have their weaknesses but nothing beats them for a home theater.

I prefer my plasma also. I have a small LCD and a 42" plasma - I bought the plasma less than a year ago and it's in a room with a very large patio window. There is some glare during the day, but it's really not too bad. The main reasons I chose the plasma was because of the wide viewing angle and the better picture for my money. With an LCD, the black is not really black. Each cell starts with white light but filters out what you don't want. The plasma's black is dark because there's actually no light coming from those cells. At night, the LCD picture is not comparable at all to the plasma. With dimly lit scenes in a movie, it's hard to see details on the LCD. Since I don't watch much TV and was buying for movies in particular, this made the plasma the better choice - that, and I was able to get a larger size for my money.

As far as burn in, with the newer plasmas, it's supposed to be around an hour or so before it starts, and 10 hours or so until it becomes permanent. I'm not really too worried.

My son has a 50" Samsung plasma and it is really nice! I guess my decision is between a bigger plasma, or a smaller LED. I see that you get more tv for your dollar when you buy plasma, but they cost more to run. Decisions.....decisions!

I disagree. I think this is the silliest thing people do when they buy a TV.

A TV should be fit to the size of the room. The further you sit from the TV, the bigger it should be. The closer, the smaller.
