Isn't one of the key parts of martial arts focused on bodily control and not jerky movements? :p kidding aside, just keep handling your snake and wear gloves if your scared.

haha, hence why I am no master. Better to say Martial arts has given me the gift (curse) of overreaction to fast movements. Anyways yeah, I know it doesn't hurt being bitten, I'm not really scared of that, its just the sudden striking. I watched him strike last night, at a f/t in a little cup in his cage. I literally jumped up out of my chair :P

Thanks juliemay13 it certainly was not intentional, it was the first week i had him, i was sitting on my bed and at the time so hé was not hurt. Absoutly love the little guy now. Maybe the person who made these comments should try to Make some contstructive comments instead of bashing people, As i Said i was new to the hobby at the time. This is not my thread we should be trying to help the person who made the original thead. Thanks

Just get bit and get it over with, because once it happens your going to laugh and say "really? that's it??". Guarantee you won't be scared anymore lol. It's cute when they bite, I usually don't notice they got me until I see my blood. :rofl:

lol i'm with ya here man, although i'm not jumping as high as i used to i still flinch quite a bit watching a feeding. but i HAVE to supervise my girl's feedings cuz she eats live.

i'm seeing a pattern with my girl's behaviors so it's easier for me to anticipate when she's gonna be moody (it's always when she's in shed or sleeping). i've been able to recognize that her hunting for dark spots during handling sessions means she's had enough and she's trying to "hide". that's my cue that the handling session is over and it's time to put her back.
i only handle her 2 x's p/ week for 15-20 minutes each time. i DO NOT handle her when she's in shed or during the 2-3 days following a meal.

animals are GREAT at sensing what's going on with us so yeah, i'm willing to bet dollars to donuts your snake is feeding off your nervousness and the minute you relax, he will too.

It really is not as bad as your thinking it's going to be. There's no reason to distrust a snake because it struck and bit. Granted I have never been bit by a 3000 gram female before, but the "small" bps are harmless. I don't have the highest pain tolerance in the world and it's barely even noticeable, I'm surprised it even draws blood half the time.

Yeah, I'm sure it doesn't hurt to get bit, still, sudden movements freak me out, and I'm afraid what I'll do out of reaction. I think if I got bit, it would make it easier to handle him, but I won't purposefully provoke him. It'll happen when it happens I guess.

On a funny sidenote. I noticed he's gotten shyer in the past few days. I put a f/t in a little cup. He stuck his head out of his hide, put the f/t in his mouth, didn't strike, and he retreated back into his little hole, mouse in his mouth. It made me laugh, and it kinda gave me the creeps for some reason.
