my U.T.H is stuck directly to the bottom of my terrarium and i have small pieces of drywall elevating that side to keep it off the surface of my dresser...here it is...

the cord coming out from it is either the U.T.H's power cord or the thermostat's probe cord. both cords are actually coming out at almost the same spots so it's hard for me to know which is which from that pic. the thermostat probe is sandwiched between the U.T.H and the bottom of the terrarium so it's monitoring/controlling the temp of the U.T.H since that would be hotter then the actual surface my snake lays on.

the substrate i'm using is exo terra forest bark, shown here...

my girl just pushes it around so she can lay on the bare surface on her warm side which is where she's at in that pic. the warm side is the left 1/2 of the terrarium (hence the reason only that side is elevated) and the cool side is the right 1/2.
when i check temps with my temp gun i check the bare surface on the warm side so i'm always aware of how hot that surface is.
the bark does keep the heat from getting through a little since it's chucks and not light shavings as seen with aspen so to allow the heat through i just use a very light layer on the warm side, basically just enough to barely cover the bottom of the terrarium there. which really doesnt even matter to my girl cuz like i said she just pushes it around anyhow.

I'd say your snake's about ready for a new hide. Just a bit small...:)
