People build up what getting bit is like in there mind and to be honest I'd rather get bit by a Ball Python than a rat, dog or cat any day of the week. The thing that gets most people so worried is the strike, they feel like they wont have time to react and to be honest you don't, and its a good thing.. the ones I hate are the ones you know are coming, when a 1500 gram snakes is lifting its body off the ground 18 inches with its mouth open you just know it's coming.. It's why I don't like Texas rat snakes, those things bite just because they have teeth.

Congrats and welcome to the club! :P
Just wait until you get mistaken for food. It's rather funny when they think they can strangle your arm/hand to death. :P

Re: New mile marker!
When I do my tub maintenance, thats about the only time I handle my balls....*lol snickers*. So I can read there body language pretty good. If there just balled up laying there I will just reach in and remove them to the holding tank. But if I lift up there hide and they coil back I know there none to happy so I will give a little spray from my water bottle to change the insuing outcome and I gently pick them up and there good to go.
I've never had one strike or show any aggression once I have them out of there tub. My biggest girl is 750 grams as of right now and range all the way down to 250 grams.

Re: New mile marker!
My very first snake bite was from an 8 foot yellow anaconda while I was giving a presentation to a group of around 30 boyscouts. Moved wrong and she decided to grab my hand. Very little pain, killed all the fear of being bitten. ;)

So glad to hear that the medics didn't have to be called..
I just posted a similar thread a week or so ago. Glad you have joined the club!
BTW, 2 days after getting tagged by my 160g Spider, Death Snake, I managed to mess with Mama Rat after day 2 of her first time having babies... bad idea. Got me right on the knuckle. Trust me everyone... Rat bites suck WAY worse then BP bites.
Just leave mama alone for a few days if she's poppin' them out for the first time or 2. :colbert:

I know that look. That squinty eyed 'I'm waaaay faster than you, weak human!' look with imagined mad laughter and big toothy grin.

The rats ALWAYS aim for the knuckles! They make sure to nail the spot that stays soar and is slow to heal. They teach it to their pups first thing.

Re: New mile marker!
Welcome to the club. My first bite was from a small guy, no more than a year old. I opened the cage door and he flew out at my hand, hit, but quickly released and landed on the floor :O:O:O well he was fine since the next thing he did was eat. I love him, he'll never miss a meal for anything.

Same thing here. Gave him a f/t fuzzie rat and he gulped it down and smacked his lips. Not sure how he can eat with the jealous way my cat was starring at him- then look at me like 'why don't I get rats?'
