the logic behind that is simply this,
if they have to jump through a buttload of hoops to get something they want such as a venomous snake, for example, they'll take better care of it right? cuz they'll appreciate all the hard work they had to put into getting it, hence lessening the chances of them making a stupid mistake.

I just read it as "nobody should own hots because they are dangerous." And, decided to rant a little :) I do think people should be licensed to own hots, there is very special care in owning them. However, I think they should be able to do it. I loved watching Kevin (NERD?) handle his beautiful hots. Wow. Drool!

Ya Kevins rattlers are crazy insane. He loves them. I agree with people having to go through not only a certification process as well as a licensing process. They should show that they can house and provide for them and not just know the information to take a few tests and get a permit. I think the same for the big snakes too and crocs, and large liZards. But as for this pushing the ban crap through... How is that due process. It's just disgusting a legislator can push something through without even caring about what the constituents that put him in that office care to say about it. That person is doing this for his own publicity, special intreats group political gain, and his own interests. I hope he dent get reelected and I hope there plenty of breeders and reptile owners in that area to push him to back down. 2 snakes? That's bs. Screw you. A ball gets with in that size but if you can only own 2. That will put every breeder in that area out of business. It horrendous that he would do such a thing based off of one rediculous mistake that some idiot made. Ban hots, but really 2 snakes, and 10 geckos. Ya ok. I have 20x that in one room. I dont even want to think about how many the big breeder have. That's disrespectful to the people that put you in office. There should always be a grandfather clause as well as a grace period to share your views so that the law could be made in a more appropriate way.

I sort of wish there was like a test involved in owning things like hots, maybe even giant pythons. Instead of just paying for a license and picking up the animal, they would have to show they have knowledge of the animal, almost like a drivers license? It could help the animals as well, as the person would at least have to know SOMETHING about the care of the animal! I personally met a guy who paid to be allowed to have a burmese..which he keeps in a laundry basket. :O Idiot!!

So I was looking at some old articles about python related deaths that lead us up to these new laws, most of them are from 2009, and wondering to myself why theses owners who have these pythons that are getting out and killing small children are not being charged with child endangerment, neglect and abuse? sad example of my state right now. I am used to the bans since the nearby major cities have a blanket ban on all snakes regarding them as wildlife. except pet stores still sell snakes and the law turns a blind eye to them.

Then there has to be some kind of loophole or grandfather clause that pertains directly to pet stores or even reptile places and breeders.

I just hate the fact that because some got bit by a HOT SNAKE that our non-venoumous snakes are put on the line! That's just downright stupid in my book. That's like banning house cats because someone got bit by a lion. :mad:
