I have a herpstat pro, a ranco, and a johnson. I love the herpstat and all the features but if your not planning on breeding, a ranco will do just fine. They hold target temps great. The only drawback is no night drop. I just picked up a johnson wich does have night drop capabilities but it doesn't seem to be as accurate at holding temps as the ranco
