Is CB70's to big for Ball Pythons?

My question is, is CB70 too SMALL for adults? We tell everyone starting out that 20 gallon tanks are too small for adults, but 70 liters isn't even 20 gallons. 41 liters is closer to 10 gallons.

I have kept babies/subadults in CB70's with no real problems. Sure they have a tremendous amount of clutter and hiding material in each tub since...well they are far to big. But I always say it's better to go a little to big than to small especially for adults who can get decently big.

But correct me if I am wrong here a 20 gallon tank has far less floor space than a sweater box because it's sides are so high.


I certainly hope a CB70 isn't to small for adults that would really throw off my plan.

The amount it holds isn't as important as the floor space needed for ball pythons.

It's 41 quarts. Plus we don't get as concerned as much about volume as we do about area when it comes to ball pythons.

Keeping that in mind:

Floor space of a 41 qt tub is about 578 square inches.

A 28 qt tub is about 352 square inches.

The floor space of a 20 gallon aquarium is about 288 square inches. It's the width on the 20 and 29 gallon aquariums that's tight form adults - 12" or so.

A 30 gallon breeder aquarium is 18" wide and has floor space of 648 square inches.

I keep my breeder females in my cb70. Works great and I've never had any issues with it.

It's all about floorspace, and not total volume.

1 US quart = 0.946352946 liters, silly person.

So it's all about the floor space then? Okay.

Has anyone produced them yet?

The total floor space is what I go by.

I admit I am weird, but I positively HATE how shallow most tubs are that are used for balls. Now, I am not saying people who use them are doing anything wrong, but for me personally I don't like them one bit.

So, after much research and hunting and trouble, I located suitable tubs with nearly identical floorspace but taller by a bit to make me happy. My adult male and sub adult female tubs are actually drawers made by Sterilite that I removed from the stackable frames and fitted to my rack.

They are roughly 24" X 18" X 9" high instead of the standard 6". My snakes all do well in them, and I like them really well. I recently moved my four biggest breeder females into Sterilite 90 quart tubs. They carry the same floor space as the 70's, but are 12" tall. I really would have preferred something not quite as tall, but given the choice between smooshing them into 6" or building a bigger than planned rack for the 12", I went with 12".

Now, I know there are dozens if not hundreds of people who use the 6" tall tubs and there is nothing wrong with that, but for myself and my snakes, I like the taller tubs. :) The point I'm aimlessly trying to make is, by going with floor space measurements, I decided that the almost square drawers I use are basically the same as rectangular 41 quart tubs, and that even though my 90 quarts are taller, they have the same floor space as the 70's.
