That's awesome, Kymberli and go you for following your dreams! I always had horses growing up (a double registered palomino/Quarter Horse was my last and a few downright evil Shetland ponies, lol!) and didn't get into snakes until recently. My dream growing up was always to be an equine vet too and go to Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine and work on horses and while my job now is nothing close to that, I've still got a huge soft spot for all the animals, great and small.

After getting my first snake, my crimson corn, I was hooked! Won't get into the details of what prompted me getting him, but you're absolutely right that a snake can change your life and even save your sanity, in some cases. Whatever you do, I wish you all the best at it and hope it works out for you! :gj:

Re: Who knew a SNAKE could change your life..
Awesome Kymberli! Being a Herp Vet was also on my short list of career goals. I ended up being a Biology and Chemistry teacher at the very high school that I graduated from. My Biology teacher had a classroom full of critters, that inspired me to become a teacher. I now teach in that very same classroom. You never know where life's path is going to take you!

I feel the same way. Ever since I got my normal it's always on my mind what snake to get next, how I plan to breed, etc. I also agree about the Herp vet shortage. Dog and cat vets are a dime a dozen. I have to live in fear of one of my snakes getting sick because I have no idea where to find a vet...

Fair play to you, it's physically impossible to find a herp vet around here (unless you meant herpes lol), my bp changed my life too (begged for one since I was 6 and it took me 11 years to convince my mum haha. Good luck. :D

NS Canada... The nearest herp vet is a 20 hour drive (one way) away. So you have to go to an avian specialist. She is smart and is trying to do the best she can but it isn't the same.

Hadn't seen these last few replies, but it is true, large animal and common animal (cats, dogs, etc.) vets are far too common. I can't imagine it is easy to find work or start your own office. Seeing as so many keepers agree herp vets are few and far in existence, it's the best plan financially and for the sake of my own pets. :) Who knows, maybe in the future many of you will be bringing your snakes as well as your cats and dogs to my office. I can only try!!
