Whiteouts on Black

I really like the black background! It takes awhile to figure out the manual settings, but you'll get it all figured out! :gj:

Thanks! Actually, she is kind of floating in the first two pics. I reached under the black velvet fabric background and tilted her.

I'm using a Canon 40D. I forgot what I did with the first two shots, but for the last two I did a custom white balance using a white background to set it. I then used the exposure bracketing feature to get a range above and below the auto exposure.

I'd love to learn about any other tricks.

oops, now that i scrolled all the way to the last post, i saw that you're using a 40D. thats nice. i just picked up a Canon T2i this last weekend and can not wait to try it out with some of my colloection. nice shots.

the exposure bracketing is one way to make sure you get the right exposure. that is what i was going to suggest. as for the white balance, it is better to use something that is only 18% white, not all white. they sell custom white blance cards but i use a lid to a tupperware. i have read that the lid to a pringles can works well to.
