Valentine...thanks for that info...it was awesome! You can also check out bannana iguanas...they are yellow and black and super cool looking.
Ooo! That sounds fabulous! I'm actually dying to get an iggy (especially after seeing your Gizmo pics! Love it love it love it!). College makes it difficult to keep anything I can't fit in a closet sized room with me though. I feel like I should've edited my other post to say "I advise against iguanas as first time lizards" because you're right about them being incredibly rewarding. After all the research I did it's just dizzying how much care they require. But if everything is provided and people know what they're getting into I suppose that they won't be surprised with something they didn't expect :D

I'm gonna agree with everyone else on the "iggies are awesome but not great pets" kind of thing. I have met a single iguana that tolerates interaction with multiple people. I have no idea how long the guy had him but it was years. And he worked with him a lot. But even he said that the lizard would have times where handling was not so good. He had to go to the hospital to get stitches when the iggy got up on drapes and he went to get him down and was tailwhipped on the face and hand (because the lizard got scared, not even because he was angry or upset).
I would second the beardie. I got one a little over a month ago and they are great. Super personable, get to a good size but not huge, manageable cage size but the lizard personality.

Ok what everyone stated is true...they are very difficult and not a starter reptile. Their bites are super super painful and get ready for scratches all over your arms...seriously you will look like a crack addict....lol
Ok with all that being said....look to see if their are any breeders. Do some research on different stores and see what looks best. ??? Other than that not sure where to get them. You can go on green iguana society website and there is tons of info and ppl that have been keeping them forever. They have so much knowledge!!
As far as their cage....once grown they will need a cage around 6ft by 5ft, and they eat a TON! lol All greens and veggies though but you will be surprised how quickly they go especially with a full grown iggy. With iggys its kind of a crap shoot....hence if you get a rescue adult...its easier in my opinion. Babies take a long long time to train and take a long time to become tame ...but some just never do. They will hold everything bad against you as it was clearly your fault..and their memories are forever.lol Babies are fairly vicious most times....as they are scared to death you are going to eat them. It takes at least a couple of hours a day for 6 to12 months to get a baby to tame up in most cases.
With adults the males after about 3 years will go into mating season and some of the most calm and loving igs will go after their female owners hence you have to be very careful. Many of them come out of this after the season but I know a few owners whose hubbys have to handle the igs during this time. With the females they are not as agressive but even though they have not mated will lay eggs and you have to make sure that they do not get egg bound.
Now....lol...with all this being said it can be very rewarding especially when you are dealing with someone like Gizmo. He is super fun and has a great personality. But I have my little iggy baby that is not quite a year old. He was abused and is just a physco. I work with him usually about 3 hours a day and it is slow slow slow going. lol I am hoping when he gets a bit bigger all will calm down.
hmmm...I think I have covered a lot. Check out green iguana society....there is soooooo soooo much great info and join and talk to ppl there. You can find me under Michelle Bell. :D Hope that helps.
Thanks so much for giving me both sides of the coin, so to speak.
We have Sugar, the bearded dragon, but he's not technically "mine" but my dad's, plus the 2 dauschands, and the cat, who also isn't mine, so I really am wanting another animal and am exploring the different options and choices out there. I don't want to just get the first thing that catches my eye, because if I did that, my house would be even more of a zoo than it is already:rolleyes:
I haven't committed to anything, or any animal.. I'm just trying to get information.. Hmm, I think I need a new thread, lol.. I'll get on there in a few because I have a feeling things will get totally off topic here.
