I keep my snakes on shredded aspen. I use a scoop to spot clean as needed and replace with clean bedding, and do full tub changes/cleanings once a month.

I use diluted isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle, and wipe it down completely. It's way cheap and evaporates. That being said, I still give it a thorough rinsing, dry it off, and let it sit for about an hour. For items in the terrarium, I spray heavily, rinse, and spray heavily, then rinse a few times and let them set for a few hours. It is bad to breathe in, though, so it's tough scrubbing a large terrarium that you have to put your head in, it can give you a headache. And I'm pretty sure it dissolves the silicone to some minor degree. But otherwise, works very well.

Spot clean for 3 to 4 weeks, then I take out all my tubs and dump the aspen. Then I put all my tubs, and water bowls in the bath tub, and spray them down with a water/bleach mix 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Let it set for a few minutes, then rinse it off...Dump fresh aspen in the tub and put the snake back in.

All of my guys are on paper. Their tubs get a spray and wipe down after each mess with this. Should I still be disinfecting every few weeks as well?

edit: Their hides also get wiped down with it if they get "painted", and we wash each water bowl every 3-5 days in hot soapy water.

I've read in a few places that diluted brown Listerine works well in a pinch, I use it if I'm spot cleaning or cleaning furniture. Just rinse it well!

What's The 3% Solution. Please Please Tell Me How Much Water And Clorox Do I Need. I recently Washed My Tub With Soap And Water And Let It Dry Outside My Window. I Woke Up Today And I Saw A Little Black Bug On My BP, And Lifted The Paper Towel And I Saw Three More I Think When I Let It Dry Outside My Window There Were Some Logs That Had The same Bug. Do You Guys Think Its Mites. I Gave My BP A Luke Warm Bath And No Bugs Came Up To The Surface. I Started To Panic Then I Washed The Hide, Water Bowl, And Tub With Water And A Little Bit Of Clorox With A Spray Bottle. If The Bug Comes Back What Should I Do Next To Prevent Any More From Coming.
