    It sounds to me like you got lucky. If I see a female giving birth, I don't touch her for a week, cleaning day or not. They stress super easy, and can die very easily right after birth. Does she appear to still have babies in her? If so, she may not make it very long. I have a rat that'll stop midway and just give up, most of the time they end up dying.
    And, I gotta say, I agree with Suzuki.... no matter how tame you think theyare, they are still wild animals. Especially female rats, they can be fine one minute, and attack you the next to protect their babies. Even the tamest rats...
