That's why you use one piece of flexwatt for your tanks/tubs and get them both on the SAME heat source. I just went through the same thing using 2 exact same tub set ups and two separate heat sources on the same tstat. Now using the same for both makes my temps even more consistent, 0.5-1 degree diff, if any.

Just ordered another Zilla 1000 thermostat, problem will be solved if UPS actually gets it here

Try reading the whole post. Going to tubs was not a question no matter how many times the same person said it.
Havent "insulted" yet.
It was a simple question about "!!! UTH !!!" readings and nothing else.
Some newbies cant get questions answered, and I understand the older crew gets tired of answering the same questions over and over.
Though I am learning there are only a hand full of people here that give a straight answer.:confused:

I'm just telling you everything I know on how to solve the problem. I could really care less if you do it or not. Just saying that with glass tanks, you are always going to be messing around having probs with temps and humidity. I hated the thought of putting my snakes in tubs but now that I have, wish I would have done it sooner. Again, do what you want, but this way will solve your problems, guarantee it!

ok to mostly everyone in this thread, the issue has nothing to do with a tub vs tank, nor in this case would the tub make the slightest difference. and also lets say he keeps his house a little warmer than most, and has a inline humidifier, he probably not going to see an improvement using a tub, he never said what his conditions were.

but what he is asking why his UTH are varying so much, the answer is the UTH are a piece of crap, or atleast the heating elements they used in them aren't very consistent. I bet if you took resistance reading on them, they would both be different.

I have a rack which uses 6 different pieces of flexwatt and all are within half a degree of each other, none of the flexwatt i use varies more than half a degree. so i think its pretty consistent.

Humidity is a constant 50- 60/65ish%, mix of eco earth and aspen shavings.
Ambient temps of 75 to 85
Belly heat 90 to 95.

I figure they are made of copper strand to get the heating element, also figured that they are made by the same company and same part number that they would be identical. As in coil wraps and amount of winding inside them? The resistance is a little different between the two but I didnt think it would make that much of a difference on temps. Wounder if one is soldered a little heavier that the other?

My first question was to ask what exactly your UTH is. If it's a heat pad/mat from the pet store I can almost guarantee that's the problem. Heat pads aren't all the same regardless if they are the same model and brand. They are inexpensive for a reason, they aren't accurate. Getting a new thermostat isn't going to help if the heat pad is off. I have two heat pads that are exactly the same, but one is about 10 degrees lower than the other and only a few months older than the other. I rarely use them so there is no reason for them to be acting up. I think I've used them each a total of a month in the three years I've had them.

Also, I know you don't want to hear this, but I wouldn't waste your money on the R-Zilla thermostat. That's what I started with when I only had 4 bps. I was using it for my flexwatt and a friend of mine told me that I should really be using a dimmer as a back up especially if I was going to use a cheap thermostat. Well wouldn't you know it, about two weeks later I check on the snakes and there's no heat. Look at the thermostat and it got hot enough that it melted!! Had I not had the dimmer I wouldn't be talking to you right now because my hobby would have been desecrated. That's my warning whether or not you want to hear it. At the very least, get a back up dimmer!

IMO, it's better to just use a dimmer than a cheap thermostat. When a thermostat fails it runs wide open, when a dimmer fails it cuts the power. It's not a huge deal with a heat mat, but with flexwatt it's the difference between life and death.

I have two tanks on a Zilla 1k And for now the other two are on cheap petsmart Zoo-Med dimmers that I went and picked up last night just to have as spares once the other Zilla shows up.
I dont mind having extra stuff like that laying around just in case.
(As a mechanic you can imagine how much " Just In Case" stuff I have in my garage:oops:)

Plus I am planning on adding 4 more 20L tanks in a couple of months to have up and running in case I find another good deal;)
