I have a 200 gram male het pied producing plugs right now, although his female het pied is nowhere near being up to size yet.

We had one of our boys go to town at 223 grams. He was a male fire. We cycled him in with a larger experienced male breeder and he is the one that came through. Paired up with a Blond Pastel. 5 eggs total 6 babies (one pair of twins) The twins look to be 2.0 FireFly's (but we are still waiting to make the final call) 0.1 blond pastel, 1.1 fires, and 0.1 normals.

Generally speaking we like to mix younger (less than a year old) Co-doms and doms in with proven breeders a year before they will breed to give them some exposure. Most of the time they don't do much, but sometimes they do!

Other times we have trouble getting a 500+ gram male to do anything with a female. Take the same male and put it with a different female and it becomes a stud muffin all of the sudden!

I voted for six, because my option wasn't up there. This past season I had a 350 gram male breed 8 females and we got 7 viable clutches from him. I think only 3 eggs total went bad from his breedings. It can be done, but it does require closer monitoring of the male's health, and he won't be able to copulate each female as often, but if he is introduced at key points during follicular development, it can be done.

p.s. I have heard of more clutches coming from a male if an ultrasound is used, and the male copulates only once with each female.
