Alright, what about this then?...when I held him right after getting him he seemed really active (alert, and checking everything out). Except he seems to be really shy while in his terrarium. At night, while hes out and about doing his whole nocturnal thing, he will check me out for a sec after a walk in the room, and then go back into one of his hide-boxs. Should I wait for this to go away first? or could that just be his personality?

Baby snakes are naturally going to be nervous because it is instinct, but the fact that he is alert and exploring while your holding him is a very good sign. He might just need some more time to get used to the terrarium because its prob. a lot bigger then what he is used to.

I just got a new snake. He came with his tub, hide, and water bowl. The hide was way too big so I gave him a small one. He ate a very small rat for after a few days, but hasn't eaten since. He's very defensive (came from a breeder who only fed and spot cleaned once in a while) and I'd like to start working with him. He's always hiding and only cruises a little at night... I don't know, maybe it is overrated, but I don't want to bug him yet until he starts eating regularly for me.

To BbyBoa: Yeah he is in a 30 gallon terrarium at the moment and hes pretty small (only 2 months old) and the breeder I got him from uses a rack system for the babys with decently small drawers.

To Sarah: If its been over a week or two, I'd guess your snakes feeding problem might be another type of husbandry problem (wrong temps, no heat gradient, no water in his enclosure, his hide-box might be too big) There is A LOT of stuff it could be... its a game of trouble shooting, and elimination.

99% of problem snakes are due to cage size.

You have yours in a 30g now and its eating since its young and hungry. Shall see how that plays out later on when he fills out in few more months and see if feeding stays consistent.

Ive never used tanks for balls and never will since i dont have problem feeders.
