I agree the ad is stupid not really for the picture but for the "maximizing potential" and "finer things in life" would have been funnier if it was a magazine/book in his hand and a pair of glasses on or something like that.
I do smoke aswell and find it pushes a little but im in canada too so we dont really have alot of advert's with smoking or drinking in it anymore

Re: Flukers and Reptile Magazine Ad gone stupid
To me they missed out on their core audience, younger keepers.
That ad could be quite funny if done with that in mind.

Although, to put things into a bit of perspective, there are some people who actually smoke cigars only rarely, without being addicted to tobacco and smoking on a regular basis. While not entirely safe, it may be going too far to say that such behavior is excessively dangerous.

I agree that it may be time to change the image of a wealthy individual, though. The fact that they got their point across means it hasn't happened yet.

I don't seriously think any kiddos are going to grab a cigar and a martini because the chameleon had one.

Then again, I agree with the folks who say we should remove the warning labels from everything and late nature take care of the country's problem... ;)

Just because it's in a new mag doesn't mean they haven't used it for a couple years now. ;)

Also, I think the magazine's core audience is ALL reptile keepers; not just the young ones. Like has also been said before, I don't find it likely that a kid is going to go out and grab a cigar and martini after seeing this ad, and it's the parents' jobs to teach their kid what's bad for them.

Just to be clear Reptiles mag doesn't deem it ok for children to read. The parents who buy it material for their children do. Have you seen some of the go daddy.com adds, or the Ax Body wash adds on TV. As a parent if I have an issue with something on TV or in reading material I know how the remote control works and every Magazine I order can be canceled and they will fit in a trash can..

Besides, chameleons only live for about 5 years, so lung cancer probably isn't as much of a worry for them. ;)

Hahahaha, they should have added that in small print at the bottom as a "disclaimer" along with a "don't try this at home"lol.

Maybe it's just me but when I see this ad and the other ads that they post like that, the first thing that catches my eye is the big letters "UNFLUKENBELIEVABLE YOU SAY" and what comes to mind is the action of the lizard in the picture is "UNFLUKENBELIEVABLE" (no doubt a parody of the word un-f'n-believable), not that he is enjoying the finer things in life. If you think about their other ads with the same lizard, he is doing various other jobs like a Construction worker(not what pops in my head when i think about the finer things in life, lol) but thats just my point of view, I don't even really look at the smaller print on the ad.

I'm with you on that to me it was a poor poor marketing director that came up with that..As for the smoking and drinking both, while un-healthy, are still legal in this country if you're of the proper age but if a smoking, drinking, lizard is the face Fluckers wants to portray with sideways foul language that's their problem personally I think they need a new marketing team, from the looks of things they found some 22 year old frat boy and paid him to write this stuff. I wonder whats next for them with this line of add's fart jokes ??

    Dear Flucker's Please grow up..

i know im going to get hated for this and sent to the wolves, but i don't find anything wrong with it i don't think kids are that dumb that they will say "Ohh if lizards smoke i will too!" and if they are its because the parents aren't teaching them the aftereffect of the habit they choose

its just my opinion please don't flame me =/
