That has to be the only downfall to breeding your own rats. I always had pet rats as a kid and it's easy for me to become attached to them. I bought her as a feeder but she was clearly pregnant so I kept her and she was such a good mom and super sweet so I just had to keep her. It was a win win anyway because my older breeder had a heat stroke and lost her eyesight so she is now retired (which is sad because she still tries to nurse the babies LOL).


And what is myco? I've heard of it before, just never looked into it. Maybe that's what happened with Little Momma... She suddenly lost a lot of weight and was sneezing a lot. She was covered in porphyrin.. It was pretty bad so I fed her off after a week of seeing no improvement.

She had myco probably.
It progresses to the point they gasp for air, very sad.
Starts with sneezing, progresses to red noses and eyes and on into bronchial issues and certain death.
Rats that are treated for it and recover are also more prone to getting it again.

For me the highs of breeding and making certain traits come out by far out-weighs the hassles of buying food for the snakes, especially when the snake count is up around 20 snakes :P

Siamese and Himilayan are virtually the same thing. Siamese is just homozygous Himilayan. :D

So don't be too upset! Hah! :P

As long as I make these beautiful rats I'm good, nobody said rats had to be ugly :P

Question, I can't seem to find the answer to: "Can agouti combo up with Himi or Siamese"?

I made numerous Siamese in my agouti breedings and no combo, does the diluting cover it up, or is it just not possible?

Yes! They can pair up. :)

"Yes, but it's washed out. A siamese who is A/* is a pale beige. Sometimes it's all over, and you can see light ticking. But if it's a poor example, you wont see the ticking because it wont be dark enough, you'll just see lighter than normal points"

If you want to darken a siamese, breed them with blacks. ;)

I'll have to check the Siamese closer to see if any are agouti also or if I can even tell.
I've been told that blacks make the best/darkest siamese/himalayans, I do this breeding quite often and it is true, my blacks def throw the darkest babies.

Yeah. Just pluck a few hairs, and if you have a magnifying glass, you can look for ticking on the individual hairs. Sometimes it's hard to see because the colours are so darn similar on some shades of ticked fur.

Here's a photo with some crummy lighting, that lets you see the ticking on this poined mouse. It doesn't really show at all without the weird light, but here you can see it pretty easy on the body.

Those agouti blues are so cute! I never knew there was such a thing. Makes me want to breed rats again.
